Diaz Contemporary first opened in the fall of 2005, with an inaugural exhibition of work by Canadian and Mexican contemporary artists. The exhibition set the tone and agenda for the gallery’s future programming, designed to showcase a range of artists from both countries.
Located in downtown Toronto, in a newly renovated post-industrial building, Diaz Contemporary’s space is well suited for exhibiting a range of media including: sculpture, painting, drawing, photography and media based work. The space houses two gallery rooms that are used to present one larger show or two simultaneous exhibitions.
The gallery has become a forum for further expanding the critical dialogue of the international art world on a local level. With a roster of emerging, mid-career and senior artists, gallery director Benjamin Diaz is committed to fostering the careers of his select artists as he continuously presents critically engaging contemporary work.
